Compliance Is Coordination Overhead

Most compliance effort is not execution. It is coordination.

Most compliance work is not doing the work. It is making sure the work gets done.

Following up on access reviews, checking if onboarding steps were completed, asking for evidence, clarifying ownership, tracking status across tools.

The actual control might take ten minutes. The coordination around it takes hours.

This is why compliance feels heavy without being complex.

The effort is not in execution. It is in stitching execution together across people and systems.

When coordination is manual, compliance expands with every new control, every new team, every new dependency.

The system does not get stronger. It gets slower.

The only way this changes is when coordination is removed as a layer.

When tasks are created without asking, assigned without discussion, completed without follow-ups, and verified without chasing.

Until then, compliance will continue to feel like overhead, because most of the work is not the control.

It is the coordination around it.
